THE SEXTON'S OF CRENSHAW COUNTY, ALABAMA
Elias E. Sexton, b.1809 in South Carolina d.31 OCT 1871 in
Crenshaw County, Alabama. He married Celia Harrison, b.24
JUL 1813 in Georgia d.20 FEB 1902 in Crenshaw County,
Alabama. Celia has an obituary that appears in the 27th Feb.
1902 issue of "The Luverne Journal". By 1834 Elias and Celia
had settled in that part of Lowndes County, Alabama that
in 1866 became Crenshaw County, Alabama. Elias enlisted at
Butler Co, Alabama and served as Home Guard in the Confederate
States Army during the Civil War. Elias and Celia are buried at
Cool Springs Church Cemetery in Panola, Alabama (Crenshaw County).

was discharged on 01 APR 1865. His obituary appears in the 26th NOV 1914 issue of
"Crenshaw County News": "On last Thursday A.C. Sexton died at his home in Beat 4 about
9 miles northwest of Luverne, of cancer. Deceased had been a sufferer for many years
and at last paid the debt of nature. He was 80 years old and had followed farming all his life.
He left surviving four sons, Esqr Jim Sexton of Covington Co., M. Sexton, Frank Sexton, and Lias
Sexton, all of whom lived near him in this county. He left three daughters Mrs. Tom McCartha,
Mrs. Bertie Marlow, and Mrs. Puss Green...." He married in 1855 to Martha Caroline _____________, b.18317 MAR 1837, AL d.29 OCT 1904.
