The Saunders Family of Covington & Geneva Counties
and
Saunders Cemetery in Houston County, Alabama

Submiited by: Jerry L. Segars, MAR 2007
with additional research & census info by Lisa R. Franklin

There are two graves located in Saunders Cemetery, about 60 yards off the road in a stand of mature oak and magnolia trees at the northwest corner of the bridge on Brannon Stand Road, just north of US Highway 84 West, Dothan, Houston County, Alabama. The area is apparently not a cemetery, and is not maintained, although the graves are in remarkable condition considering the low area near the creek and the 137 years they have been there. I was made aware of the graves by Officer Joey Evans of the Dothan City Police Department, Dothan, Houston County, Alabama. He says the Saunders are on his mother's side of the family.
