Subject: Givens Pictures

I would greatly appreciate a copy of the house picture. Can you send it e-mail or will you have to mail it? Also, I would like copies of all the pictures without the writing on them so they will enlarge better to frame. Would that be possible? I was wondering whether the picture of Robert and Kate was clipped to show them better, and whether the unclipped picture might actually show more of the house. I need to find out when they were born so I would know whether they were living at 401 College when the photo was made. As I said before, the Givens moved into the house in 1923 as far as I can ascertain. ... Thank you so much for posting the photos and corresponding with me. This is exciting! and guess what? I found the pictures today which is my wedding anniversary, Nov. 2, which is also Amanda's birthday (1899). Isn't that fun!

The ziglar lady had some of them and Brenda said some came from a house she rented or bought .So I didn't know if some belong to another family,,,but I couldn't stand the thoughts of such beautiful pictures ,that belonged to some family somewhere!....I do have a picture of a house ,I will look and see if I can find it and send it to you , when I get the chance I want to study the information you wrote ,,My Great Grandmother was Una Vae's Daddy's sister..She was Jane Taylor married Isaac W. Odom....I just got out of the shop and can't think straight ,but would like to talk to you some more ...THANKS SO MUCH!

Peggy, I forgot to tell you that Mrs. Givens' daughter, Angeline, married a Taylor there in Andalusia. Maybe Una Vae Taylor Zeigler was related to him someway. I don't know his name at this point but I might try to find it.

Hi, Peggy:

Rose Givens, widow of James Alexander Givens and the mother of several children, purchased the home at 401 College Street, Andalusia, AL, in 1923 from Mr. McArtan. She and her family had formerly lived in Bradley, AL, where her husband had a sawmilling business. Since my husband and I now own the house on College Street and are renovating it, I have been researching the home and the family so happen to have some information that is perhaps related to the unidentified photos you posted. It is possible that all the Givens pictures are from the family of James Alexander and Rose, either their own children or nieces/nephews. Among Rose Givens' several children were a son named Robert and a daughter named Kate. She also had twin grandsons named Randy and Rodney Jones (not exactly as named in the posted photo). Reference the picture of Amanda Givens, an Amanda Givens was the daughter of William Sherman Givens, the brother of James Alexander Givens, and Alice Kolmetz. She was born November 2, 1889 in Washington, FL, and died March 3, 1911. She is buried in Almarante Cemetery, Okaloosa County, FL, where Rose Givens, her husband and a son are also buried. From Mrs. Givens marriage record, I know that she was a Henley, born in Dalton, GA, before her marriage so could be connected to the posted Henley photos. All the above information I got from the LDS Family Search on the Internet. It was posted by Margaret M. HARRIS, 37 Maples Street, Fort Walton Beach FL 32548, with whom I have not been in contact. I am looking for a picture of the home at 401 College Street that shows the original porch. Is it possible that the person who gave you these pictures might also have a photo of the house? I would appreciate contact information if you have it. I hope this information is helpful. I'm thrilled to have these photos to copy and frame in our "new" house when it is finished.

Sincerely,
Linda I. Palmer Huntsville, AL
