Dunaway Family Cemetery is located on the Coosa River Side of Dunaway Mountain, on Lister Ferry Road.

From the intersection of Alabama Hwy. 77 and U S 411, go West past the Rainbow City Hall, and take the first left on to Lister Ferry Road, go 3.4 miles, and the Cemetery is on the right side of the road, facing the Coosa River.

Dunaway Family Cemetery History:
The Dunaway family came into this area by 1832. One of the ladies was a charter member of Old Harmony Baptist Church. The Dunaway family owned a large farm on Coosa River, consisting of several hundred acres of land. The farm laid just west of the Lister Ferry. The mountain that runs parallel to Rainbow Drive is named for the Dunaway family.
Several years ago I (Doyal Hill), owned a lot on the river that was the former site of the old Dunaway home. I bought the lot from one of my cousins, that owned the farm before the water had covered the bottom land. He could barely remember the old house. He said that he though the house was torn down about 1903 or 1904. Several members of the family are buried in Old Harmony Cemetery.

Red Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery

Town: lvalee
County: Etowah
State: Alabama

Location: 3 miles west of Attalla, on Highway 278.

History of Red Hill United Methodist Church, and Cemetery:

The first church was organized, and built on the property of Fitzhugh Lee.
Later John J. Haggard made arrangements to obtain two acres of land from J. W. Clifton to build the church on.
Several families from the community cut timber from their land, and took it to the church site.
Them and many others donated their time, and labor, and soon the woodframed building was erected.
Rev. Nimrod Dobbs appears to be the first pastor of Red Hill Church, serving in 1921.
Jennie Summers, the mother of Mrs. J. J. Haggard, was the first adult to be buried in the church cemetery in 1925.
She was followed by Katie Bell Jones in 1926.
In 1947, a building program was started for building a brick building with a full basement for Sunday School, and a Fellowship Hall. Which are still used today.

Note, I only used a small part of the article in writing the Cemetery's History, that you read above. I also rewrote the information that was used, so it wasn't written exactly this way, in the book. LEE FAMILY CEMETERY

The Lee Family Cemetery is located on US 411 south, about 3 miles south of Rainbow City, Alabama, City Hall at the former site of the original Lee home. The cemetery is located on a knawel overlooking Rainbow Drive and facing Dunaway Mountain to the south.
The oldest marked grave in the cemetery is Charlotte Thompson Lee 1803-1875.
The cemetery is well maintained by the Lee Family and is beautifully landscaped.
The Lee family root's in this community can be traced back to the early 1800's.
The family has contributed greatly to the Rainbow City and Etowah County area in the fields of agriculture, aviation, building, education, land development and timber.
Several of the family members married descendants of the early pioneer families of this area.
For many years the Lee family operated a large diary and sawmill operation on their farm.
