Jordan Private Cemetery
Located in Coosa Co., AL near Kellyton, off Coosa County Rd 65 on
the Five Star Plantation near Historical Ann Jordan Lodge; established circa
1836. The cemetery is behind the lodge in the woods on a hill. The cemetery
has about a one-foot thick square cement wall around it - about 54 feet by 36
feet. The wall is approximately four feet high, and there is no gate to the
cemetery. It has cement steps on one side of the wall in which to climb and
adjacent steps to step down into the cemetery. Surveyed by Ronald D. Bridges
with his wife Eunice on 4 Jun 2001.
There are several unmarked graves, three graves with a rock at the head and
a rock at the foot, and a grave with many rocks piled about a foot and a half
high. All the marked graves have fairly new headstones. Some of the foot markers
with initials are leaning against the inside wall. Orrie Pearl Maxwell's old
headstone is broken in half and is stacked upon the grave which has many rocks
piled about a foot and a half high. It appears someone has replaced the old
headstones, while leaving some remnants of the old headstones and foot markers.

After ascending the cement steps and then descending the adjacent steps, one
can see inlayed into the back inside wall a very large engraved stone with the
following:
IN MEMORY OF REUBEN JORDAN BORN IN AMELIA COUNTY, VIRGINIA, MAY 20, 1782 - DIED
IN COOSA COUNTY, ALABAMA, AUGUST 23, 1840
Mark the perfect man, and behold the upright, for the end of that man is peace.

Note: When a previous survey was done by the Coosa County Historical Society
in the late 1970s the inlayed stone plaque was not there. Also, the Coosa County
Historical Society had the headstone of Elmira Sophia Mitchell, Wife of William
M. listed. It appears that whomever placed the new headstones up did not know
where to put her headstone, thus listed her on the inlayed stone plaque. The
Coosa County Historical Society did not have the death month or day of Reuben
and Ann Spivey listed or her maiden name.
Reuben Jordan was a Captain of a company of South Carolinians,
in the War of 1812, serving under Andrew Jackson. My interest in Reuben
Jordan is because
he is my Great-Great-Great-Great Granduncle. Ronald D. Bridges.

Recorded by Ronald Davis Bridges on 21 Nov 1999, during a cool, soothing, breezy, beautiful, evening
with trees of color waving their leaves good-bye to the fall. Later in the evening it turned into a joyous, beautiful night
with a radiant full moon. As beautiful as an angel that flies happily through the beams of a full night moon.

Time has worn smooth many of the markings as most are either shale or white marble. The above is a complete ( as can be ) listing of all the graves and dates listed by tombstone. Steve Liveoak

Subj: Coosa County Cemetary Date: 97-01-09 22:48:05 EST From: cannonb@mcclellan-cmls.army.mil (Billy B. Cannon Jr.) Reply-to: cannonb@handcuff.com To: GenWebLisa@AOL.COM Lisa, Please add this small amount of data to your Coosa County Cemetary Area. This unnamed cemetary is located just off of Brownsville Rd. (AL 007) between Goodwater and Hatchet Creek. The land belongs to Patti Fleming who inherited it from here uncle Dean (given name unknown). It borders my grandfathers (Thomas Bagley) land and was "rediscovered" last year. My aunts and uncle seem to remember it when they were very young. In any case it is badly overgrown and obviously vandalized several years ago. There are several gravesites, mostly unmarked or unreadable. The following is all that we could piece together: Emily Jacobs Departed this earth July 1867 7 years and 2 mos. old Malind L. (unreadable) wife of C.W. ONEAL Born 1821 Died December 21 1897 C.W. ONEAL Born 1821 Died April 13 1880 G.W. ONEAL Born 1856 Died 1906 The tombstone of Malind L. is very ornately carved in marble and is obviously the largest at the site, while her husband's is very simple and small. The stone of their (assumed) son is even smaller. No one, including the present owner of the land, to date, have any knowledge of these people or their descendants. Thanks for the wonderful web page and all your effort. I have some limited data for: CANNON, BAGLEY, SPIVEY, GARDNER, HYDE,and ROPER that I am willing to share.
Coosa County, Alabama Directions: From Sylacauga, going south on 280 (old 231) you head west on Coaling Road - follow that road for a few miles past an old closed down store until you go past a small church on a hill on the right. For further directions, you will have to email my cousin SLiveoak@aol.com Compiled by H. Note: This list is incomplete. I inadvertly erased part of the information from a cassette recorder while transcribing. I do recall that there were many graves with the surname Butler. Also, there were many unmarked graves. Next time I get to Bama I will try to complete the list, unless someone there wants to do it. There is a church at the cemetery. -- Gale Liveoak Dyer --
