The Pritchard land is a part of the old Col. Thomas Leftwich estate, Mt. Airy. Aaron Pritchard, son of Charles, Jr, lives on the land and has one of the finest collections of Indian artifacts around, all found in the area. Aaron is teaching his children ecology. NEWMAN - NUIMANN - NEIUMANN Conrad and Nimrod Newman left Germany or Switzerland before 1760. We find them first in Shenandoah County (formerly Dunmore, formed from Frederick County in 1772). All early records in Bedford County written by Conrad were in the German script, and with the German spelling. Nimrod used the English spelling and writing. They were probably brothers or uncle and nephew. Conrad married Anna Margaret Brubeck of Shenandoah County. Anna's parents were Elizabeth Zehnder and Adam Brubeck, Sr. of Muttenz, near Basel, Switzerland. Adam, a weaver, and Elizabeth arrived in Philadelphia with daughters, Anna and Maria, in 1749. Adam later received a land grant and settled in Virginia in 1766. Conrad fought in the Revolutionary War and, for his services, received a grant of 582 acres of wild and unsettled land in Bedford County. Nimrod was a fifer in the old Va. Reg. under Col. Byrd, and received a certificate for 50 acres of land. He received a grant of 354 acres of land for his services in the Revolution. Conrad and Anna moved to Grayson County in 1803. It is believed he died in 1806, so he was probably old at this time. Their children are: Anna Margaretta, 1771-1858, married John Bryant Franklin in 1792, second, Samuel Williams ?.
