Uriah and wife, Nancy had six children: Uriah, Jr. married Nancy ?, Polly married Samuel Murphy, Nancy married James Ayers, John married Polly Dickerson, Nicodemus married Margaret Adams (Peggy), Valentine K. Leftwich married his cousin, Elizabeth Caffrey. He died at his home on Shallow Ford Road near Staunton River (Route 656), adjacent to Nancy Leftwich. Cap. Uriah is buried at Mt. Airy graveyard, Col. Thomas Leftwich's family graveyard. The descendants of Uriah are scattered all over the country. Mrs. Lillian Leftwich Piland of Dunwoody, GA., Dr. Stanley Leftwich of Alexander, VA, Mr. Dewey Leftwich of Los Angeles, CA, and Lt. Col. Linwood L. Leftwich of San Diego, CA, have all done extensive work on the family tree. Lillian Leftwich Piland descends from Uriah Leftwich through Gabriel. Gabriel Leftwich, born circa 1816, died 1895, married Easter Gardner and settled on 1000 acres along what is now a part of the Blue Ridge Parkway. Gabriel was a stagecoach driver, driving a part of the old Boone Trail. It ran by the lead mines and Jacksons Ferry at New River, by way of Fort Chissel, a distance of almost 65 miles from Wytheville, VA to Mount Airy, NC. Gabriel and Easter are buried in Fancy Gap, south of Highway 52. Quite a few Leftwiches have followed in the footsteps of their ancestors and made a career of the services. One who had an exceptional career was Lt. Col. William G. Leftwich, Jr. of Memphis, TN. He was born in 1931. After an impressive tour in the Marines, in 1968 he was selected by the Under Secretary of the Navy to be his special assistant and Marine Corps Aide. In April 1970, he began his second tour of duty in Vietnam. In June, 1970, he was killed in a helicopter crash during an emergency rescue in enemy territory. The ship, the USS Leftwich (DD-984) was commissioned Aug 25 1979 in his honor. Captain John Leftwich, (Augustine, Sr.), born 1748, died 1797, Little is known of John, who his wife was or how many children he had. He migrated to Oglethorpe, GA, and died at an early age. We do know of three sons, Joel W., John W., and James H. Leftwich, and they owned property on Fishing Creek. Colonel Littleberry Leftwich, born 1757, died 1823, married Frances Hopkins first, and married second, Frances Halley. Littleberry was in the Militia before 1802, when he was recommended as Captain of a Company of Light Infantry. After 1814, he later qualified as Lieutenant Colonel of the 10th Reg.
