Augusta Lee Rifles, Bedford. He was wounded and captured at the Battle of 
Williamsburg, May 5, 1862. He died in the Military Hospital in Washington D.C. and was 
buried at Arlington Cemetery.
Willaim D. Hubbard, was raised in Bedford County. He was a soldier in WWI, where he 
fought with the 80th Infantry Division.. He was injured by an enemy artillery shell and 
was awarded the Purple Heart. He moved to Roanoke later and joined the Virginia 
National Guard, was Captain of the Service Co. 116th Inf. 29th Division. In 1941, he was 
inducted into Federal Service with the Army and was Regimental S-4 Officer with rank of 
Major. He was later discharged at the end of the war, with rank of Lt. Colonel. Sherman 
Drewery Franklin, Ottie Jane Hubbard, (Drewery Lafayette Hubbard, John Hubbard,. Jr., 
John Hubbard). Sherman Franklin was born Dec 10 1910, Bedford County, married 
Lillian Thacker and had two children, Ann Franklin Mundy and Wayne Franklin.
