In 1917, Cora started selling some of the property, DB 101, P 422. 52 acres to T.C. Hubbard. DB 119„ P 347, 363 acres to A.P. Hubbard. DB 120, P 100, 183 acres to L.F. Hubbard and DB 120, P 154, 97 acres to Laura H. Turner. When Cora died , one of the children stayed on in the house, only to lose it later. This was during the depression and it ended up in the hands of the Peoples Bank. In 1938, Theron Hubbards son, Walton, married Maggie Splanger. He bought the house from the bank along with 79 acres of land, and the house across the road with 55 acres. Walton and Maggie lived there with adopted son, Robert Lee. Unfortunately, in 1955, Walton Hubbard was accidentally shot and killed by a neighbor. Maggie took nurses training, became a nurse and supported herself and her son. She has restored the house and it is in excellent condition. HUBBARD We have very little information on the Hubbards who were in Bedford County before 1767, but we do know that those of the family who descend from John Hubbard, who was born circa 1760, married Elizabeth, last name unknown, circa 1795, and died 1834. Elizabeth died 1841. John lived and died in Bedford County and most of his descendants lived in the communities of Davis Mills, Chestnut Fork and Body Camp. Most of the information is about his descendants. Children of John and Elizabeth Hubbard were: Joseph, George, Taliaferro Graves, Sarah, John, Elizabeth, and Susannah. Joseph, son of John and Elizabeth married Juliet Leftwich, daughter of James Leftwich. George married Sarah Leftwich, daughter of James Leftwich (Redhead). The children of George and Sarah Leftwich are Creed Thomas, George Washington, James C., Sarah Ann, Mary C., Frances M., Susan, Julia M. Martha and John Monroe Hubbard. Creed Thomas Hubbard married Sarah Ann America Johnson, daughter of Francis and Nancy Johnson. Creed was a soldier in the Confederate Army, Co. F, 2nd Reg. VA Calvary. He was wounded May 7 1864 at Todds Tavern and fell into the hands of the enemy. He died from wounds received. John William Hubbard, son of Creed Thomas and Sarah A. America Johnson Hubbard, married Mary Priscilla Wilson daughter of James and Elizabeth Wilson, had children, Bessie Durand, Eliza, Creed Thomas, Jr., Frank Lee, Albert Ordway, Willaim Moorman Hubbard. Bessie Durand Hubbard married Donnie Lipscomb and had daughter, Doris Lipscomb. George Washington, son of George and Sarah Leftwich Hubbard married Mary Ann Leftwich. George was a soldier in the Civil War in Co. D, 28th Reg VA Inf., known as 98
