COMMUNITIES DAVIS MILLS In 1790. Joseph Anthony and Company were granted permission from the Court to erect a merchants Mill on Goose Creek at the falls adjoining the land of Joseph Dickenson. In 1800, Joseph Anthony deeded to Christopher Anthony 1,486 acres on the north side of Goose Creek. Admire Turner owned land on the north side of Goose Creek. It is believed that Turner's Ford and Turner's Meeting House (later Goose Creek Baptist Church) were on this land. In 1814, Christopher Anthony deeded Smithson H. Davis the tract on Goose Creek beginning at Admire Turner's line, 640 acres with mill, store house, dwelling and other appurtenances. In 1816, Micajah Davis and Smithson H. Davis gave a 5900.00 Bond to build a bridge at the mill over Stoney Creek (Bridge since demolished). TURNER There is an old farm on Goose Creek starting at Goose Creek bridge on Route 122 and follows the creek north about a mile. At one time it extended north along what is now Route 122 and crossing Route 24 to Mob Creek. James Turner was the first tenant and was here before 1761, as he mae his will leaving tracts of land to his children. He died in 1793 and left to son Admire 250 acres of land "wheron I now live. He is not to enter or take possession of this land until the decease of myself and my wife" DB 1, P 388. Admire died in 1818. He mentions his wife Sally in his will and children: Lucy Chewning, children of deceased daughter Frances Chewning, John, Milly and Kitty. Son Benjamin Turner, daughter Mary Ann Stratton, sons Admire, Lewis, George and Jubal. Daughters Milly Leftwich and Sally Grigsby. Other children of James Turner were: Ruth Turner married Moses Hurt. Moses' will, in 1806, mentions children, James, Elisha, Nathan, William Littleberry, daughters Mary Apphire Stone, Bethsheba Stone and granddaughter Molly Stone. Mary Turner married John Hampton. Isaiah Turner. Elijah Turner died 1820. His will, dated 1820 mentions wife Sarah, daughters Tabitha Haynes, wife of Henry Haynes, Sally Holland, wife of Drury Holland, Doshia Murphy, wife of John Murphy, Jr., Rebecca Ore, wife of William Ore, sons, Richard, Elijah, Wilson Jesse and Meador. 20
