For those of you with Alabama roots and a decent familiarity with census handwriting PLEASE sign up to help index the 1940 Alabama census! The more folks working on Alabama (and yes, you can select what project/state you work on) will speed up indexed access to Alabama's 1940 census records. I have been monitoring the progress since Alabama was first released and at the present rate Alabama's index will be available free online in 8 weeks--the more folks working the state project the FASTER it will be finished and posted for everyone to search free! This is the link to sign up and get started indexing the 1940 Alabama Federal Census!
