FYI--AWESOME research tool by Craig Remington, of the University of Alabama, for Alabama genealogists ( I have already ordered mine as my 1999 edition has seen so much use the pages are quite worn and nearly falling out! LOL) :

We are pleased to announce the availability of new editions of the Historical Atlas of Alabama, Vol. 1, Historical Locations by County, 3rd Edition and the Historical Atlas of Alabama, Vol. 2, Cemetery Locations by County, 2nd Edition. The previous editions of Volume 1 ...and Volume 2 were completed in 1999 and thus the new editions incorporate new data we have collected over the last eleven years. You may click the volume names above to download/view sample pages.

Click here for the order form, if you wish to purchase the atlases. You may
also order excerpts on a county by county basis. While both volumes are
more substantial than the previous editions, they have not changed the price of
the books. It is a self supporting organization within the Geography Department at the University, and the funds generated from book sales are used to continue this research.

Also, their website can be found at http://alabamamaps.ua.edu. It is " is a collection of over 40,000 historic maps of Alabama, the United States and for that matter, the entire world. We believe it to be the largest website of this type in existence and we continuously add to our offerings on the site."
